Brian: [Opening with energy] Welcome everyone! Thank you all for joining us today. Now, before we get started, I want to ask you something. Who in your life has added the most value for you? Think about that person for a second—what did they do that made the biggest positive difference in your life? How did they help you improve?
Nader: It's a question we all need to reflect on. Because whether it's a teacher, a coach, or a mentor, we all have that one person who helped shape our journey. Ever wondered how the best become the best? How do the world's top achievers start their journey?
Brian: It’s not just about talent, or even hard work alone. It’s about the people they surround themselves with—the mentors who guide them, challenge them, and help them see their own potential. That's what brings out the best in people, and it’s why we’re here today.
Nader: I’m Nader Fadaee, and this is Brian Oney [Hey]. We’re here to talk about the power of mentorship, and how, by becoming a mentor, you can help shape the next generation.
Brian: We’ve seen it firsthand. Everybody has the ability to achieve greatness. But we also see the struggle—students with immense potential, weighed down by doubts and setbacks, who don’t always know how to break through. I’ve worked with students who lacked confidence, only to see them bounce back, grow, and succeed. But I’ve also seen top-tier students, who on paper had everything going for them, fall short, sometimes in dramatic ways.
Nader: The difference? Grit! And the right guidance. It’s not about who’s the smartest in the room, but about who keeps going. And having a mentor, someone to support you through those tough moments, makes all the difference.
Brian: And that’s where you come in. By being a mentor, you’re offering more than just advice. You’re offering a lifeline, a light at the end of the tunnel when a student is at their lowest. You’re there to help them navigate the challenges and see what’s possible beyond what they ever imagined.
Nader: And to share a little about my own journey – it wasn’t always smooth. Bullies, drug dealers, and overworked, emotionally drained teachers defined my high school experience, leaving most students in our school with few options. University only contributed to worsening my mental state, leading to a breakdown in my final year due to a lack of support in place. By some miracle, I graduated, but jobs were scarce. I worked early morning shifts at Tesco and tutored in the evenings. This experience helped to open my eyes to the educational system in place — teachers overwhelmed, students treated like numbers, and the entire process dehumanized.
Brian: And that's when you made the switch, right?
Nader: Exactly. I made the bold decision to focus on mentorship—putting the student’s well-being at the heart of everything. It wasn’t just about academic results anymore; it was about helping students thrive on a deeper level.
Brian: That’s what being a mentor is all about. It’s about standing by students when they’re struggling, giving them the tools and strategies to succeed. We’ve developed frameworks like karmic cycles, mental models, and time management strategies that help not only with academics but with life. It’s about perspective, about framing challenges as opportunities.
Nader: And we employ standards like UDL, making sure that every type of learner is catered to—whether they’re visual, auditory, or hands-on. We customize our approach, listening, adapting, and fine-tuning our methods to ensure every student can thrive.
Brian: Now, here’s the thing—we can’t do this alone. And that’s why we’re inviting you to join us. To become a mentor, to be part of this movement that’s about more than just education—it’s about improving lives.
Nader: Studies show that mentored students are 55% more likely to enroll in university, they’re more likely to volunteer, hold leadership roles, and have better attendance. One-to-one tutoring, when done right, can give a student five extra months of academic progress in just one year.
Brian: The results are astounding! And talk about emotional support (chuckle). Over 78% of university students who received counseling said it helped them stay in school when they were thinking of dropping out. That’s the power of mentorship, and that’s the power we want to pass on to you. - https://bcpsca.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/retention_and_college_counseling_centers.pdf - Although the exact statistic mentioned is not quite accurate, according to a review conducted by Brian Van Brunt on behalf of the BCPSCA, he showed that there is a significant increase in retention rates of university students who received counselling.
Nader: So, join us. We’re opening a waiting list for our "Train the Trainer" program, where you’ll learn the strategies and tools to make a lasting impact in your community. It’s a chance to be part of something bigger, to give back, and to transform lives in ways you never even thought possible.
Brian: And in the meantime, we’re creating a space for mentors and leaders to connect, to share, and to grow together. So, let’s build this community. Let’s inspire the next generation to reach new heights.
Nader: Thank you all for being here today. We can’t wait to see what we’ll accomplish together.
Brian: See if you qualify to join our social space, and become part of the improvement. The future is waiting. Let’s make sure we’re ready to guide them.
Christmas Competition

No Entrees?!
Unfortunately, this year we had no entrees in our Christmas competition at all this year which means that not only do we not get the opportunity to celebrate the success of our students but no rewards will be given out either.
Here is a link to the first place reward for the student who would have shown that they have grown the most in 2024.
As mentioned in the previous edition of our newsletter, this hoodie is not available in this country which means that students missed the opportunity to receive a one of a kind hoodie with the better life tuition patch stitched on, available in all sizes.
However, all hope is not lost!
As there have been so many students working hard this holiday period, I would like to extend this competition to include those who have their mocks in January and all you need to do to compete is send in your results. The student with the highest grade / percentage will win the first place prize.
