Unleash Your Potential With a Crystal-Clear Vision for the Future

It’s important in life to have goals for your future. Many people, both students and adults, struggle to plan beyond the end of the year, let alone 5 or 10 years, because they’re unsure of what they want in life—especially with so many possible options, some of which are beyond their awareness. The most important thing a plan can give you is a sense of direction in life, as this will help you move in a direction rather than stay stuck in time hoping that something will force you to change. Anything that will force you to change will always create pain and if you’re lucky, there is someone who will help you to move away from the cause.

Whatever you decide to do, I encourage you to plan BIG! The bigger your hopes and dreams, the greater the desire and the more action you take. The more action you take the greater the momentum you generate and before you know it, you have made a lot of mistakes and had a lot of wins but you won’t be stuck in time waiting for something to happen to you.

The only thing that will stop you from fulfilling your dreams is you” - Tom Bradley

Turning intentions into Achievements - The Power of Following Through

Many people make New Year’s resolutions only to find they can’t stick to them for more than a month or two. The reason is that while their goals might improve their lives and overall quality but they don’t make them happy. Their journey becomes painful, filled with setbacks and extra effort, and somewhere along the way, they realise they no longer want to achieve their goals. What they truly want is the feeling they think they should have once those goals are achieved.

By identifying the goals you want and creating a vision, not just of what you want at the end of your journey but how your going to get there while having fun and enjoying every step of the journey.

I love to use this example but we all saw what happened during lockdown. While everyone is forced into the fight-or-flight response the blood flow to the brain is restricted and redirected to the body in order to help save lives. This function has a serious impact on higher functional thinking and while it may be beneficial for short periods of time, our physiology is not designed to cope with modern day stress and it does impact our emotional intelligence and the development / function of our brain.

Dreams are the seeds of change. Nothing every grows without a seed and nothing ever changes without a dream” - Debbie Boone

Understanding your strengths: What are you good at?

“What are you good at?” I find these 5 words to be in every student’s nightmares who don’t know what they want in life. What are you good at besides having fun? What are you good at besides mocking about? What are you good at besides wasting time?

These questions are often harsh and loaded with presuppositions, designed to make students to feel bad about themselves and who they are. There’s a reason why students find it difficult to make choices; they can’t trust themselves. This goes for adults as well. When adult’s are unable to trust their child, they find it impossible to trust themselves as they are forced to constantly second guess themselves, double down on their beliefs in order to maintain a sense of certainty, only to become too rigid in their own beliefs to find it difficult to change.

Instead of asking what are you good at? I find that if you focus on enjoying the present moment by balancing work with play, alongside an understanding of responsibility then you are more likely to fall into the path which is right for you and develop a sense of trust and respect for yourself. No matter what decision you make in life, if you lack trust and respect for yourself, then failure is the end result.
